Beyond the View - Canaletto

A major Tatton Park exhibition exploring Canaletto's link with Cheshire's Samuel Egerton, pairing the mansion's Canaletto paintings with prints, letters and Italian treasures.

Tatton Park's 2026 exhibition examines the connection between the Venetian painter Canaletto and Samuel Egerton, an 18-year-old Cheshire man who found himself in Venice's art scene in the 1700s. Tatton's two Canaletto paintings are displayed together for the first time alongside rare prints, letters, books and objects reflecting the English passion for Venice. Visitors can follow Samuel's story, see digital art inspired by Canaletto's work and view items from Tatton's Italian collection. The exhibition runs on selected dates from 28 March to 1 November 2026.
