Beyond the View - Canaletto at Tatton Park
About
A major exhibition at Tatton Park's Mansion exploring Samuel Egerton's connection to Canaletto, featuring paintings, artefacts and digital installations.
The exhibition traces the journey of Samuel Egerton, who left Cheshire for Venice aged 18, and his connection to Canaletto, with Tatton Park's two Canaletto paintings displayed alongside rare prints, letters, books and objects from the Italian collection. Digital installations include Studio Peut-Porter's immersive artwork 'See Me Appear', using virtual performance capture, augmented reality and soundscapes to tell stories of the Egerton family, and 'The Flow of the Little Canal', where paintings appear to spill beyond their frames. Elements include 'The Italian Job: Samuel Egerton and Canaletto' and 'Italian Connections', featuring works such as Rosalba Carriera's pastel portrait and Ludovico Ughi's 1729 map of Venice. Free family drop-in activities are offered on selected dates in October and November 2026.
