Charleston to Hip Hop: How Black Dance Changed British Culture
About
A free Black History Month celebration with Jazz Dance Elite featuring a live dance performance and interactive workshop tracing Black dance's influence on British culture.
Led by Jreena Green, Jazz Dance Elite takes audiences on an interactive journey through 200 years of jazz and African Diasporic dance, from the Foxtrot and Charleston through Lindy Hop, Rock'n'roll, the swinging Sixties, Funk and Hip Hop. The event combines a live dance performance with a hands-on workshop in which attendees can learn the dances, with members of Shake your Groove demonstrating the 1960s Twist. Light refreshments are provided and children and families are welcome, with two sessions offered on the same day.
