The Air Ministry Regrets: Facts, Fiction and Emotional Truths in the AIR 81 Series

Stuart Hadaway and Emily Walton explain how RAF casualty files were compiled and how researchers can avoid common misunderstandings while reading them.

The lecture examines RAF searches for missing aircrew, casualty investigations and families’ correspondence, considering what the records reveal about the human cost of war. The in-person session is at the RAF Museum Midlands Lecture Theatre; the same lecture is also livestreamed online. In-person attendance is free and requires registration.
