Art History Short Course - Hockney and Pop Art: Insider and Outsider
About
A three-week art history short course with tutor Steve Roberts exploring David Hockney's relationship to the British Pop Art movement.
This three-week evening course examines how David Hockney was labelled a Pop Artist while he and others rejected that tag, positioning him both inside and outside the 1960s art establishment. Week one covers the beginnings of Pop Art in Britain and Hockney's early connections and move to America in 1964; week two looks at his 1961–1969 work and how it fitted and exceeded Pop Art; week three explores his later development across painting, photography and digital art. Open to anyone with an interest in the topic.
