Revisiting Robert Louis Stevenson in the Pacific
About
An Archive Case display pairing Pacific collections and Stevenson publications with new comic adaptations by Simon Grennan and Solomon Enos.
This Archive Case display re-examines Robert Louis Stevenson's Pacific writing through graphic storytelling, showing items from the Museum's Pacific collections alongside historical publications of his stories. British artist Simon Grennan contributes drawings from his adaptation of 'The Beach of Falesá', retitled 'Shadow Play', while Hawaiian artist Solomon Enos adapts 'The Isle of Voices'. The display also features photographs, a Hawaiian silver dollar, new poetry by Selina Tusitala Marsh and Caroline Sinavaiana-Gabbard, and a silent film loop of locations visited by the project team, exploring remediation, Stevenson's fascination with 'the foreign' and post-colonialism in the Pacific.
