Ply-split Braiding Workshop
About
A beginner-friendly day workshop at the Pitt Rivers Museum learning ply-split braiding, a textile technique from Rajasthan, with tutor Helen Leaf.
This one-day workshop introduces ply-split braiding, a textile technique originating in Rajasthan where high-twist four-ply cords are split through each other's centres to build a piece of work. Participants will use cotton, linen and wool cords to make three different braids, begin learning how to make their own cords, and hear about the technique's traditional origins, including decorative camel belts. The day is suitable for beginners aged 16+, with all materials and printed handouts included, and gripfids available to purchase at the end.
