Make a Unique Folding Medieval Stool
About
A one-day woodworking course where participants hand craft their own medieval-inspired folding stool using traditional techniques and hand tools.
Participants hand craft their own medieval-inspired folding stool over a single day, using locally sourced hardwood poles shaped with hand tools. The folding frame, seat rails and pivot rail are joined with hand-carved round tenons, round mortices and oak dowels, and the seat is strung with natural jute cordage rather than rawhide. The design is inspired by a rare medieval folding chair held in Dumfries museum, and each finished stool will be unique. The workshop takes place in Ghyll wood at Wyresdale Park estate, working outdoors where possible with an indoor space and wood-burner as backup.
