Exhibition: 100 Years of RRS Discovery
About
An exhibition at RRS Discovery marking 100 years since the ship became the UK's first Royal Research Ship, exploring a century of oceanographic research.
This special exhibition commemorates the centenary of RRS Discovery's designation as the UK's first Royal Research Ship in the 1920s. Developed by curators from the National Oceanography Centre's Discovery Collections, the University of Southampton's National Oceanographic Library, Dundee Heritage Trust and the Marine Biological Association, it traces the evolution of ocean research over the past century. Visitors can explore the changing design and purpose of research ships, the history of the Discovery Investigations, the four Royal Research Ships to bear the Discovery name, the roles involved in ocean exploration and life aboard a scientific expedition.
