Grace – Astral Illuminations

An orchestral concert at BBC Hoddinott Hall featuring a world premiere cello concerto alongside works by Mazzoli, Williams, Mason and Mägi.

Conductor Chloe Rooke leads a programme inspired by orbiting worlds, imagined landscapes and folk memory, with cellist Laura van der Heijden as soloist. The first half pairs Missy Mazzoli's Sinfonia (for Orbiting Spheres) with the world premiere of Augusta Read Thomas's Cello Concerto, Astral Illuminations. After the interval, the concert features Grace Williams's Dark Island Suite, Grace-Evangeline Mason's The Imagined Forest and Ester Mägi's Symphony, rooted in Estonian folk tradition.
