Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No.5

Kahchun Wong conducts the Hallé with pianist Tianyao Lyu in Chopin's First Piano Concerto and Tchaikovsky's Fifth Symphony.

The Hallé performs Chopin's Piano Concerto No.1, written when the composer was 20 and described by him as a reverie in the moonlight, alongside Tchaikovsky's emotionally direct Symphony No.5 with its memorable horn melody and waltzing third movement. Teenage pianist Tianyao Lyu makes her debut with the orchestra as soloist after her success at the International Chopin Piano Competition. Principal Conductor Kahchun Wong leads both performances, and the Thursday evening concert is the Mrs Vera Clegg Memorial Concert.
