About

A traditional candlelit service of readings, carols and anthems at St Bride's Church marking the beginning of Advent.

Advent Carols is a traditional service of music and readings marking the beginning of Advent and the journey towards Christmas. The church begins in darkness and expectation before moving into light as readings, carols and anthems unfold. This year's programme blends new and familiar repertoire, opening with Richard Lloyd's Drop down, ye heavens from above, featuring a soprano soloist in the Minstrel's Gallery, and including Biebl's Ave Maria and two settings of Ave virgo sanctissima by Francisco Guerrero and Lucy Walker. The service lasts approximately one hour and is open to all.
