Pastoral Symphony

The Oxford Philharmonic opens a Beethoven Symposium weekend with the Prometheus Overture, Piano Concerto No. 4 and the 'Pastoral' Symphony at the Sheldonian Theatre.

This concert opens a weekend-long Beethoven Symposium (5–7 February 2027). Marcello Palazzo conducts the Creatures of Prometheus Overture in a side-by-side performance, after which Marios Papadopoulos plays and directs Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 from the piano. The programme closes with the Symphony No. 6, the 'Pastoral'. A pre-concert talk by Nicholas Mathew, 'Other Beethovens', explores the composer's less heroic side at 18:30.
