Introductory Ottoman Calligraphy Workshop
About
A beginners' workshop introducing Ottoman calligraphy tools, letter formation and meşk practice, linked to an ebru exhibition.
This two-hour hands-on session introduces the traditional art of Ottoman calligraphy and its relationship with ebru. Participants learn about the principal tools and materials, including the reed pen and ink, and the basics of letter formation, proportion and composition. Rizwan Ahmed Khan demonstrates the traditional meşk method of guided practice, and participants work directly with traditional tools; no experience is needed and all materials are provided. The workshop accompanies the exhibition Script and Pattern: Akkase Ebru and is open to ages 15+.
