Graham MacKenzie: The Legend of Loch Maree
About
Fiddler and composer Graham Mackenzie brings his newly commissioned work The Legend of Loch Maree to Celtic Connections at the Barony Hall.
Graham Mackenzie sets the ancient Highland tale of Olaf, a Norse Prince, and a Highland maiden — often described as a Highland echo of Romeo and Juliet — to newly composed music and traditional songs exploring loyalty, love, longing, bravery, betrayal and mystery. The work was commissioned by the Blas Festival 2026 and inspired by illustrations of the legend by Inverness printmaker Margaret Robertson. Mackenzie is joined by Gaelic singer Kathleen MacInnes, Rory Matheson on piano, Innes Watson on guitar and Conal McDonagh on whistle and pipes.
