Deer Butchery, Cookery & Bark Tanning Course (18+ only)
About
A three-day Viking-age course at Moorforge Viking Settlement teaching deer butchery, open-fire cooking and bark tanning of sheepskins, with overnight camping included.
This three-day course at Moorforge Viking Settlement in Cumbria covers deer skinning and butchery, cooking over an open fire using replica Viking and Saxon cookware, and bark tanning sheepskins using early medieval European methods. Participants camp on site from Friday 26 March to Sunday 28 March, bringing their own tent and kit, with meals provided and evenings around the longhouse fire. Extras may include fish skin tanning, fire lighting, cordage and food preservation. The course suits beginners and those with prior tanning experience, and attendees take home a fully finished hide.
