The Flask, Highgate: Society, Urban Development and Commerce in Post-Medieval London
About
A free in-person LAMAS lecture by Richard Hebblethwaite on the history and development of The Flask tavern in Highgate from 1700 to 1900.
Richard Hebblethwaite explores the most significant 200-year period of The Flask in Highgate, from 1700 to 1900. Beginning as a small Georgian tavern, the building expanded on either side to serve its changing clientele during a period of rapid economic and social transformation, displaying evidence of tavern, inn and public house use. The talk combines historical research with a detailed recording exercise to illuminate the key phases of construction and development. It is an in-person lecture hosted by the London and Middlesex Archaeological Society.
