CWGC Tours 2026 - Nottingham Church (Rock) Cemetery
About
A free one-hour guided tour of Nottingham Church (Rock) Cemetery exploring its 101 Commonwealth war graves and the stories behind them.
The Commonwealth War Graves Commission runs a free guided tour of Nottingham Church (Rock) Cemetery, led by an experienced volunteer guide. The cemetery holds 101 casualties from both World Wars across its 13 acres, including two Canadians and two Australians in scattered graves, and the tour shares stories of those commemorated, from a professional footballer and a nurse to a victim of the Nottingham Blitz. Opened in 1856 and designed by Edwin Patchitt, the site is also where the first soldier buried, Gunner Albert Atkin, was later given a more respectful resting place by the CWGC. The tour lasts about 60 minutes, covers roughly 500 metres on paths and grass with uneven ground and slopes, and meets at the Cross of Sacrifice near the main entrance.
