Castle Water Bird Walk at Rye Harbour Nature Reserve
About
A guided 6 km circular bird walk from Brede Lock, led by expert birder James Duncan.
Follow designated footpaths and viewing areas on a gentle-paced circular walk of about 6 km (3–4 miles), starting and ending at Brede Lock. The route takes in Castle Water, former gravel pits, the farmed part of Rye Harbour Nature Reserve and the River Brede, then visits the birdwatching hide overlooking Castle Water before passing Camber Castle, reedbeds, grazing fields and ditches. Wintering songbirds, ducks, egrets and other waterbirds may be seen. Paths are unsurfaced and can be wet and muddy. Bring sturdy waterproof footwear, binoculars if available, weather-appropriate layers, and your own drink and snacks. Ages 14+; participants aged 14–17 must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over. No dogs except assistance dogs. The walk may overrun by up to 30 minutes depending on wildlife.
