Introduction to CNC Milling
About
A three-session beginner course at Fab Lab South West introducing CNC milling, covering safety, toolpathing, machine operation and troubleshooting.
Hosted by Fab Lab South West at Arts University Plymouth, this three-session course runs on consecutive Wednesday afternoons and is aimed at complete beginners. Sessions cover how CNC milling works, including health and safety, materials and limitations, toolpathing strategies, feeds, speeds and cutter choices, plus basic machine operation, maintenance and troubleshooting. Participants work with the lab's range of CNC mills, including the MDX-40a, MDX-540 and Roland Mini Mills, and no prior CNC knowledge is required, though basic Fusion360 understanding is desirable. Within six months of completion, students can apply for the Workroom Create Programme for continued membership access to the lab.
