Breaking the Chains – a Walking Tour exploring Dundee’s Links to Slavery
About
A guided city-centre walking tour led by Erin Farley and Matthew Jarron exploring Dundee's historic links to transatlantic slavery.
This Black History Month walking tour accompanies an illustrated map highlighting sites in Dundee associated with transatlantic and American slavery. Local History librarian Erin Farley and museum curator Matthew Jarron lead a guided tour of the city centre, showing how slavery was central to much of Dundee's economy and visiting sites where previously enslaved people spoke publicly about their experiences. The tour starts in the foyer of the Tower Building and ends outside The McManus: Dundee's Art Gallery & Museum, lasts 2 hours 15 minutes, and follows a step-free route with some uneven surfaces.
