About

A day-long academic seminar at The Tank Museum marking 110 years since the tank's first use in warfare, with talks from historians and scholars.

The Tank Museum hosts a special academic seminar marking 110 years since the debut of the Mark I tank at the Battle of the Somme. The programme runs from arrival at 8am through a full day of talks in the Museum Workshop, covering topics from the tank patent and early doctrine to the first tank crews, fictional portrayals of the Mark I, tanks in Palestine, and a comparison with France's Schneider CA1. Question sessions punctuate the talks, lunch is provided, and the day closes with a networking session from 16:15 to 18:00 including the chance to get inside a Mark IV in the Tank Men exhibition.
