Liz Gascoigne & Vivien Shelton: Unearthed

A joint exhibition of abstract paintings by Liz Gascoigne and hand-built ceramics by Vivien Shelton at The North Wall, running from 21 October to 7 November 2026.

The North Wall presents Unearthed, a two-person exhibition pairing abstract expressionist paintings by Liz Gascoigne with hand-built stoneware ceramics by Vivien Shelton. Gascoigne works through layering and mixed media without a fixed intention, letting motifs such as figures, landscapes or ceramic outlines emerge, while Shelton uses pinching, coiling and slab building within a limited palette. Both artists share an interest in texture, flowing shapes and what is revealed beneath the surface. An opening event takes place on Friday 23 October and a special opening for Ceramics Oxford on Sunday 1 November.
