Dog Portrait Painting in Oils

A one-day oil painting workshop with Katie H Vallance at The Horton, teaching participants to capture a dog's character in an expressive portrait.

British oil painter Katie H Vallance leads a practical one-day workshop on painting a dog portrait in oils, working from participants' own reference photographs. The morning covers composition, drawing, underpainting and tonal values, with demonstrations on simplifying shapes; the afternoon focuses on colour mixing, palette organisation and expressive brushwork to suggest fur texture and character. Suitable for beginners and those with some oil experience, the day includes demonstrations, one-to-one coaching and a finished or near-finished portrait to take home. Paint and a painting surface are provided, with brushes available to borrow.
