Manchester Lit & Phil Literary October Book Club

Members discuss George Eliot’s Middlemarch, set on the eve of the 1832 Reform Act and the railways. The conversation considers how characters’ ideals and attempts to change the world are reshaped by social change.

The Lit & Phil’s member-only book club discusses whether Middlemarch deserves its reputation as a great English novel, considering its social setting, characters and changing ideals. Places are limited to 15 and offered first come, first served.
