Northern Soul Orchestrated

The BBC Concert Orchestra with Stuart Maconie and conductor Joe Duddell performs orchestral arrangements of classic Northern Soul anthems.

Curated by writer and broadcaster Stuart Maconie, Northern Soul Orchestrated brings a symphonic treatment to the sounds of British club culture from the 1960s and 1970s. The BBC Concert Orchestra, conducted by Joe Duddell and joined by a line-up of singers, performs the beats that grew from all-night dances celebrating forgotten American soul B-sides. Maconie presents the show, which celebrates the scene that swept England's industrial North and Midlands.
