About

A free exhibition of Wendy McMurdo's photography exploring childhood, technology, learning and play, at the National Galleries of Scotland: Portrait.

This exhibition charts twenty years of work by photographer Wendy McMurdo, a pioneer of digital tools in photography, from computer-based learning in schools to the growth of the internet and networked gaming. It examines the impact of technology on learning and play in childhood, and includes a newly configured moving image projection. Alongside McMurdo's photographs, objects from museum collections are displayed, including early 20th century children's toys, an Eduardo Paolozzi sculpture and Henry Raeburn's Reverend Robert Walker Skating on Duddingston Loch. The exhibition coincides with the bicentenary year of the Royal Scottish Academy, to which McMurdo was the first woman photographer elected.
