Woking's Story
About
An interactive family-friendly museum exhibition at The Lightbox tracing Woking's history from Tudor times to the present day.
Woking's Story is a permanent-style interactive museum display exploring the town's past, from its Tudor roots at Woking Palace to the arrival of the railway in 1838. Exhibits cover local firsts such as Britain's first purpose-built mosque and early Kenwood mixer production, military heritage through the Queen's Royal Surrey Regiment, and the histories of Brookwood Hospital and Brookwood Cemetery. The display also celebrates Woking's cultural and sporting connections with figures including Paul Weller, H. G. Wells and McLaren, with dress-up areas and hands-on exhibits for younger visitors. A Greenfield School display runs from 24 June to 18 October 2026, marking the school's history ahead of its merger with Hoe Bridge School.
