Fort Southwick D-Day Bunker, Portsmouth - Underground Guided Tour 12.30pm
About
A torchlit two-hour guided tour of the vast wartime tunnel complex beneath Fort Southwick that coordinated the D-Day landings.
Hidden History Tours leads an underground, torchlit exploration of the tunnel complex built in 1942 beneath Portsdown Hill and Victorian Fort Southwick. Known as Fort Southwick UGHQ, it served as the Combined Operations Headquarters that directed Operation Neptune, the naval phase of the D-Day landings, housing 700 men and women of the Royal Navy, Army, RAF and Allied nations. The tour lasts around two hours and covers the bunker's role, including its direct link to Southwick Park where General Eisenhower was based. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes and bring their own torch; detailed meeting directions are sent before the event.
