Fort Borstal and the Battle of Britain - Ramparts & Tunnels Tour
About
A two-hour guided tour of Fort Borstal's ramparts and Victorian tunnels, telling the story of the Rochester gunners who defended Britain during the 1940 Battle of Britain.
Hidden History Tours leads visitors through the towering ramparts and extensive Victorian tunnels of Fort Borstal, one of the last forts built under the 1859 Royal Commission's anti-invasion programme, constructed between 1877 and 1899 with convict labour. The tour focuses on the fort's role in the Second World War, when its six heavy anti-aircraft gun emplacements helped defend against bomber attacks on London during the summer of 1940. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes and bring a torch; parking, toilets and a cafe are available on site.
