Avalon Archaeology Discovery Tour
About
A guided hour-long tour of richly decorated archaeological reconstructions, from a Roman dining-room to a Viking ship replica, at Avalon Archaeology in Somerset's Avalon Marshes.
South West Heritage Trust runs guided tours of Avalon Archaeology, a site of hand-built reconstructions created by volunteers using traditional techniques. With a guide, visitors explore a decorated Roman dining-room, an Anglo-Saxon longhall and a waterline replica of a Viking ship, learning about the detective work behind their recreation. The tour lasts about an hour, after which visitors can explore the site independently, including the world's oldest excavation hut, short films in the Bulleid and Gray Cinema, and the in-progress Iron Age roundhouse. The ticket includes free re-entry to the site during normal opening hours for the rest of the year; tours are not suitable for children.
