The Folklore of British Birds
About
A guided autumn bird walk in the lower Derwent Valley with ornithologist Michael Turner, exploring bird folklore, followed by optional brunch at the Heritage Centre café.
Local ornithologist Michael Turner leads a morning walk through the lower Derwent Valley, helping participants identify autumn birds and uncover their ancient folklore — from the 'murder' of crows to darker tales behind familiar garden birds. The walk takes in the autumn colours of the valley before returning to the Heritage Centre, where there is the option to buy brunch and a hot drink in the café while discussing the birds spotted. Attendees are asked to bring binoculars if they have them, dress for the weather and wear sensible footwear; no dogs, and the event is for adults only.
