Drawing the Portrait

Artist Stephanie Mills leads a one-day portrait drawing workshop at Watershed Studio, working a single portrait on toned paper.

This one-day workshop with artist Stephanie Mills focuses on producing a single portrait drawing over the course of the day. Participants learn to capture gesture and big proportions, use shapes to gain a likeness, and introduce tone and soft shading transitions to create form and a three-dimensional feel. The session runs from 9.30am to about 4.30pm on toned paper, is suitable for all levels of drawing ability, and includes multiple one-to-one critiques tailored to each student.
