The Commonwealth War Graves Commission runs free guided tours of Hatfield Road Cemetery in St Albans, led by experienced volunteer guides. The cemetery holds 229 Commonwealth war graves spanning both World Wars, and the tour explains how the Commission honours the dead and shares stories of local servicemen and women, including a 16-year-old drummer boy, a nurse at a local hospital and a Luton bricklayer. The walk covers about 300 metres on paths and grass with uneven ground, lasts around 75 minutes, and is wheelchair accessible. Visitors meet at the Cross of Sacrifice in the central road point of the cemetery and should dress for the weather.
