About

Author Sophie Oliver discusses her book What the Dresses Know, a women's history of modernism told through clothes, in a one-hour lunchtime lecture.

Sophie Oliver appears in the Lunchtime Lecture series at House of Books & Friends to discuss her book What the Dresses Know: A women's history of modernism told through clothes. The talk explores how modernist women such as Vanessa Bell, Frida Kahlo and Gertrude Stein used clothing to navigate industrialisation, fascism and feminism, and to pursue new forms of art. The talk begins at 1pm and lasts one hour, with ticket options including a copy of the book.
