Iphigenia at Aulis
About
The triennial Oxford Greek Play stages Euripides's Iphigenia at Aulis in a new English translation with a Celtic setting and live céilí band.
The Oxford Classical Drama Society presents the triennial Oxford Greek Play, a new English translation of Euripides's final tragedy by Alexander Lafferty, Evelyn Watterson and Nathaniel Denton, directed by Wally McCabe with Kelly Yu. The production reimagines the story of Agamemnon's sacrifice of Iphigenia in a Celtic world, with a tartan-clad Achilles, Greek generals in Irish saffron, and a chorus dancing to flutes and fiddles. A traditional céilí band provides live accompaniment, performing an original score by Oxford music student Peter Hardisty.
