Leeds Song: Mary Bevan and Joseph Middleton
About
Soprano Mary Bevan and pianist Joseph Middleton give a Leeds Song recital built around their album Elegy, spanning songs of mourning and consolation.
Soprano Mary Bevan joins Leeds Song Director Joseph Middleton for a song recital centred on Elegy, their 2025 Signum Records release born from the programme From Earth to Heaven. Shaped by Bevan's grief for her father, the programme traces an arc from sorrow to consolation through works by Ravel, Duparc, Chausson, Viardot, Fauré, Brahms, Clara and Robert Schumann, Schubert, Purcell (arr. Britten), Wallen, Bridge, Vaughan Williams, Barber, Strauss, Grieg and Mahler. The recital includes an interval and lasts roughly two hours.
