The Dramatic Art of the London Underground – T423
About
An evening lecture by Mike Grundy touring the London Underground's station artworks, from early poster art to recent commissions.
This evening talk traces the London Underground's artistic tradition, from its pioneering poster art and graphic design in the early 20th century to the permanent large-scale artworks commissioned for its stations since the 1960s. Mike Grundy guides the audience through station art along the West End route from Waterloo to Mornington Crescent, then reviews highlights from across the network, showing how the artworks chart London's history, people and culture. The talk is an updated version of one given at the Institute in April 2024, incorporating the latest developments in Tube art and design.
