Sir Christopher Wren: Science, Domes & Spires – T408
About
An afternoon talk by Helen Naylor exploring Christopher Wren's scientific work and his architectural legacy, including St Paul's Cathedral.
Helen Naylor gives an afternoon talk on Sir Christopher Wren, whose legacy was shaped against a backdrop of civil war and political and religious upheaval. As a founding member of the Royal Society, Wren's scientific and mathematical ideas and inventions are less well known than his architecture, which spans churches, hospitals, libraries, mansions and palaces. The talk covers his masterpiece, St Paul's Cathedral, an engineering and design triumph that took 35 years to complete, and the inscription on his tomb there: 'If you would seek a monument, look around you'. The talk runs from 3pm to 4:15pm and is offered on a Pay What You Can basis.
