Titian’s Poesie (also online) – GI 26 138

An art history talk by Ronnie Ireland on Titian's Poesie, the mythological paintings commissioned by Philip II of Spain, in person or online.

This illustrated talk explores Titian's celebrated series of mythological paintings commissioned by Philip II of Spain, in which the artist claimed that painting was equal in status to poetry. Drawing mainly on Ovid as a source, the session examines the works Titian produced over a decade, some of his most renowned. Tutor Ronnie Ireland leads the two-hour session, which can be attended face to face at the Institute or online.
