BBC Philharmonic - Storgårds conducts Shostakovich

The BBC Philharmonic under John Storgårds performs Shostakovich's String Quartet No. 8 with the NOVO Quartet and the 'Leningrad' Symphony.

The BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by John Storgårds, explores the duality of inner fear and outer defiance in two Shostakovich works. The NOVO Quartet, BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists, performs the String Quartet No. 8, written in three days and dedicated to the victims of fascism and war. The programme closes with the Symphony No. 7, 'Leningrad', premiered in 1942 as a monument to resistance to Nazi invasion.
