Fire and Brilliance
About
The Northern Chamber Orchestra performs Shostakovich's Two Pieces for String Octet, the world premiere of Nicholas Simpson's Octet and Mendelssohn's Octet, directed by Zoë Beyers.
This chamber concert for eight string players pairs Mendelssohn's youthful Octet with Shostakovich's Two Pieces for String Octet and the world premiere of a new Octet by Manchester-based composer Nicholas Simpson, written as a companion to the Mendelssohn. Zoë Beyers directs the performance, which lasts about two hours including a 20-minute interval. A free pre-concert talk from 6.40–7.00pm features Simpson discussing his new work with Zoë Beyers, open to everyone with no booking required.
