About

A hands-on home-education day compares Captain Scott’s 1912 expedition with modern Antarctic exploration through equipment, food and polar wildlife.

Learners try a tent, sledge and explorer clothing while discussing the equipment and food used by Scott’s expedition and by modern-day Antarctic explorers. The workshop also introduces animals adapted to the Antarctic. It is aimed at children aged 5–12; the source sensitively notes that the story includes Scott and his companions’ deaths and references to the ponies and dogs. Published session: 30 November 2026, 10:00–14:00.
