Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols
About
St Bride's Choir leads the traditional Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols service with readings and Advent and Christmas music.
St Bride's Church holds its Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, following the service format devised for King's College, Cambridge in 1918 by Eric Milner-White. The congregation sings Christmas hymns including Once In Royal David's City and O Come, All Ye Faithful, while St Bride's Choir performs contrasting pieces from the Advent and Christmas repertoire. The music includes a new commission, Christmas hath a beauty by Sarah MacDonald setting words by Christina Rossetti, alongside Sebastian Johnson's Ring out, ye bells and George Guest's arrangement of Suo Gân. Doors open at 5pm and the service lasts approximately one hour.
