Caulking Workshop Onboard HMS Victory

A hands-on caulking workshop where visitors learn the traditional shipbuilding craft of sealing wooden seams, guided by expert shipwrights.

Visitors can step into the world of traditional shipbuilding and try the centuries-old craft of caulking — sealing wooden seams with tar-soaked rope fibres to keep ships watertight. Under the guidance of the dockyard's master shipwrights, participants use wooden mallets and metal tools to test their shipbuilding skills. The hour-long session is designed to be fun for all ages and takes place onboard HMS Victory as part of the Victory Live: The Big Repair project.
