About

An exhibition pairing original J.M.W. Turner works with contemporary oil paintings by Jake Wood-Evans, exploring Turner's Medway legacy.

The exhibition presents the largest display of original Turner works ever shown at The Historic Dockyard Chatham, including the Medway Sketchbook and Second Sketch for 'The Battle of Trafalgar' on loan from Tate, alongside large-scale contemporary canvases by Jake Wood-Evans. Wood-Evans' paintings respond to Turner's legacy, blurring representation and abstraction in luminous layers of oil paint. The show also includes loans from the Rochester Bridge Trust, the Courtauld and Royal Navy Museums, plus a behind-the-scenes display of the artist's sketchbooks and materials. An audio commentary with curators and the artist accompanies the exhibition.
