Lecture: Sara Ahmed on Complaining, Again!

Sara Ahmed gives a lecture at the ICA on complaint as feminist practice, marking the publication of her new book No is Not a Lonely Utterance.

In this special lecture, Sara Ahmed reflects on what it means to give a feminist ear to complaint, marking the publication of her 2025 book No is Not a Lonely Utterance: The Art and Activism of Complaining. The talk coincides with Autumn Knight's exhibition I Can't Complain at the ICA. Ahmed draws on her years of interviewing students and academics who complained about discrimination in universities, and considers how repetition in complaint can generate creativity, new solidarities and possibilities for change.
