About

A one-day daytime course with Dr Danielle Grover exploring how Jane Austen presents singleness in Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility and Emma.

This day course at the Guildford Institute, tutored by Dr Danielle Grover, examines how Jane Austen portrays the single state in three of her novels. Austen, herself a single woman, frequently mocked the marriage market, and while her novels end with marriages, the course asks how she presents singleness as both a desirable and undesirable condition beforehand. Participants should bring their own copies of Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility and Emma. The session runs from 10am to 3pm.
