Jemisha Maadhavji: I Dream From Where You Are
About
A free solo exhibition of vibrant portrait paintings and sculpture by Jemisha Maadhavji exploring identity, fashion and luxury as a connection to nature.
Attenborough Arts Centre presents a major solo exhibition by Leicester-based portrait artist Jemisha Maadhavji, bringing together painting and sculpture. Her vibrant, pattern-rich oil portraits place sitters in imagined spaces of floral wallpaper and bold colour, exploring identity, fashion and representation. The show reflects her idea of luxury as a flawless connection with nature, drawing on sari shops, textiles and Indian confectioners from her neighbourhood, and challenges conventional ideas of beauty influenced by Susan Sontag's Notes on 'Camp'. The gallery is closed 2-8 November 2026 and 14 December 2026 to 3 January 2027.
