Waxcap Grasslands

A beginner-friendly field course identifying waxcap fungi and grassland fungi at Steel Rigg, part of NHSN's North East Waxcaps citizen science project.

An introductory field course on identifying waxcap fungi and other characteristic grassland fungi, led by Sally Pattinson of the North East Fungus Study Group. Participants visit a site known to support waxcap grasslands, develop identification skills and learn how such habitats are assessed for conservation importance. The session is part of NHSN's North East Waxcaps project, which maps and protects the region's waxcap grasslands through citizen science, and attendees are shown how to submit their own sightings.
